Importance to the Business

In today’s VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) environment, communication in the business world is not always straightforward and simple. Discussions can often be challenging as they involve sensitive matters, difficult scenarios and complicated topics. In addition, we sometimes have to give difficult feedback or bad news that invokes strong emotional reactions.

The Challenges Faced

While some people are able to handle these situations well, the rest of us tend to avoid or procrastinate having these conversations for the fear that it doesn’t go the way we want it to go. As a result, what may have started as a small problem – because it is not dealt with immediately – ends up being a big problem. What could have been solved easily 6 months ago today becomes a complicated, complex issue.

Our Unique Solution

We believe that the best way to handle a challenging conversation is to first prepare ourselves for it. With careful preparation, there are higher chances of it turning out well. We start by understanding the needs of their stakeholders, preparing the supporting data and crafting our key messages. We then prepare for different scenarios and structure our approach accordingly. Lastly, we spend time practicing so that when we have these conversations, we are more effective and confident. As a result, what started out as ‘challenging’ ends up being easier to manage and brings positive results.
